Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy trade minister Verna Sinimbo believes the Oshikoto region has enormous economic potential, specifically in the areas of mining, tourism, livestock and crop farming. She made these remarks recently while on a familiarisation visit to the ministry\u2019s projects in the region.<\/p>\n

During the visit, Sinimbo also listened to the officials on the ground on what support they may require, and consulted vendors on challenges they face in running their daily businesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recognise the economic potential that Oshikoto has in the areas of mining, tourism, livestock and crop farming,\u201d said Sinimbo.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cThe ministry has taken note of the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on the economy, where businesses are not operating at optimal levels. We hope that the situation will improve in the region\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sinimbo explained the activities assigned to her office includes support for the ministry\u2019s regional offices, and to manage and facilitate ongoing industrial and SME parks.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are expected to promote sustainable economic development and growth through the promotion of industrialisation to boost productive capacities and diversification of the economy \u2013 and to provide a clear and transparent investment policy and a sound legislative framework,\u201d Sinimbo highlighted.<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cWe are further expected to facilitate a conducive investment environment for private sector-led economic growth and employment creation. In addition, our key deliverables include strengthening institutional capacity to regulate trade and capitalise on our agencies to deliver on the ministry\u2019s mandate\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sinimbo said Covid-19 has taught tough lessons and provided the much-needed desire to redouble efforts to ensure Namibia becomes a self-sufficient state.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ministry has developed the Integrated Client Service Facility (ICSF) Project intended to serve as a one-stop shop for foreign and local investors when establishing their business operations. The project is being implemented in three phases, with phases one and two completed,\u201d Sinimbo stated.<\/p>\n
