Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>KHOMAS Nampol replaced Namibia Correctional Services at the top of the Southern Stream First Division log after the second half of the season got underway over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Khomas Nampol gained maximum points at the DTS field in Windhoek after thrashing Northern Stars 7-0 on Saturday before beating Western Spurs 1-0 in a close encounter on Sunday.<\/p>\n

NCS, who had led the log before the weekend’s matches, could only collect one point after a 1-1 draw against Try Again in Mariental on Sunday, and a 1-0 defeat to Dates Eleven at the same venue on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Khomas Nampol now lead the log on 31 points after 13 matches, with NCS second on 29.<\/p>\n

It was also a good weekend for Blue Boys and Dates Eleven who both collected maximum points over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Blue Boys beat Windhoek United 2-1 at home in Swakopmund on Saturday, and Ramblers 4-2 on Sunday, to move up to third position on 27 points, while Dates Eleven beat NCS 1-0 on Saturday and Mariental Sport Club 3-0 on Sunday, to move up to fourth position on 22 points.<\/p>\n

In other results, DTS Hopsol beat Western Spurs 3-2 at home on Saturday, and Northern Stars 3-0 on Sunday to move up to eighth position on 17 points, while Mariental Sport Club and Try Again drew 0-0; Spoilers beat Ramblers 2-1; and Spoilers and Windhoek United drew 2-2.<\/p>\n

Khomas Nampol coach Fortune Eichab, meanwhile, said he was a relieved man after their narrow victory against Western Spurs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWestern Spurs have always given us problems since we started playing each other in this league. This year we completed the double over them for the first time, but they were hard fought with us winning both matches 1-0, so they are a difficult team to play against and we are happy to take all three points at home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was not an easy game and they changed their game plan so we had to change our tactics. We readjusted and starting to apply pressure and then we managed to score a goal out of nothing, so we will take the win but it was a tough game,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Eichab did not want to get carried away by their log position, saying that there is still a long way to go before the end of the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are now the new log leaders, but the league is still far from over – every game will be a new task ahead for us like Western Spurs gave us. We are going to prepare and we will try to maintain that position, but it’s not easy to be first, because every team wants to beat you. But we are ready, we will regroup tomorrow again and we will train as hard as possible so that we can try and reach our target at the end of the season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Western Spurs’ coach Mike Limon said the hot weather in Windhoek was a problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe game was not so difficult, it’s only the difference of playing in the hot sun here in Windhoek and playing at the coast, but we had a great game. We had chances to score but we didn’t use them and were just unlucky,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow we will go back to the drawing board and everything will be fine by next week when we travel to Keetmanshoop, so hopefully we will go to fight for the points,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
