Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>A PRELIMINARY report into the hard landing of an Airbus A330-200 at Hosea Kutako International Airport in February reveals the plane had no mechanical faults.<\/p>\n

The report released on 1 March by the Directorate of Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigations (DAAII) also revealed that the airplane did not have damaged landing gear or airframe.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn 20 February 2023, the DAAII investigator in charge did a preliminary investigation on the aircraft’s landing gear and airframe and no visible damage was detected,\u201d the report read.<\/p>\n

DAAII said further investigations would be conducted into the accident, focusing on operational factors, human performance, air traffic control, and on-board recorders such as digital flight data recorders, cockpit voice recorders and the Quick Access Recorder (QAR).<\/p>\n

\u201cQAR download was initiated, however, the interface download could not be performed,\u201d the report read.<\/p>\n

The report also added that the plane had 11 crew members and 263 passengers on board with no injuries, nor visible damage to the aircraft reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe flare was initiated late and the aircraft touched down hard. The landing was performed by the first officer who was on his first flight on the A330 following the initial type rating.\u201d<\/p>\n

It added that the flight performed a stabilised approach in good weather conditions.<\/p>\n

According to the aircraft incident investigation, several performance checks will be done in the interim, including a zone 3 inspection to be conducted in accordance with the aircraft maintenance manual.<\/p>\n

\u201cCollection and analysis of a range of standard information for an accident investigation of this nature are ongoing. This includes meteorological information, pilots training records, human factors and air traffic control response activities, maintenance organisation practices and regulator’s surveillance, etc,\u201d the report read.<\/p>\n
