{"id":41380,"date":"2023-03-17T18:26:29","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T18:26:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/some-okaku-polling-stations-deserted"},"modified":"2023-03-17T18:42:27","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T18:42:27","slug":"some-okaku-polling-stations-deserted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/some-okaku-polling-stations-deserted","title":{"rendered":"Some Okaku polling stations deserted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>SOME voting stations at Okaku were largely empty when The Namibian visited them on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>There were no queues at Okaku Primary School or Oshekasheka Combined School, while Oshikondiilongo Combined School had a short queue, comprising mainly pensioners.<\/p>\n<p>Okaku constituency residents were casting their votes in a by-election on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Friday said Okaku has 21 polling stations, of which 15 are fixed and six are mobile.<\/p>\n<p>Sakeus Shipanga, who is the presiding officer at Okaku Primary School, said although voters are not turning out in big numbers, he was confident they would still arrive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll is well, and we will be here until 21h00,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) election observer Joshua Mwetupunga said many people appear not to have an understanding of the regional councillor election, which is why voter turnout is low.<\/p>\n<p>Swapo, the Popular Democratic Movement, the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters, and the IPC have elected candidates to take part in the by-election.<\/p>\n<p>This follows the death of Gerson Kapenda, a Swapo councillor, in December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Kapenda won the 2020 election with 3 261 out of 4 639 votes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\">Namibia<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia.
