Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>OVER 90 Namibians will be awarded scholarships to pursue their master’s degrees in areas related to the synthetic fuels industry.<\/p>\n

This was said by president Hage Geingob during his state of the nation address (Sona) on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cTangible benefits from the grants received are yielding tangible impacts. Towards the end of this month, we will announce 93 Namibians who will receive scholarships worth more than N$34 million to pursue their masters and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in areas related to the synthetic fuels industry,\u201d Geingob said.<\/p>\n

He said one of the four pilot projects earmarked will receive over N$500 million in grant funding to develop their concepts, while more than N$120 million has flowed into the Daures Project, which is due to begin construction this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Hyphen project in the \/\/Kharas region will commence with a feasibility study and we expect construction of at least three other green hydrogen projects in the Erongo region to begin,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

However, Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernardus Swartbooi questioned how the students were selected.<\/p>\n

Swartbooi said green hydrogen appears to be driven by Geingob and those around him, and not necessarily by the ministries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you speak of the students that will gain this scholarship, the question comes – who are they, how are they selected, where is the funding coming from, how long will they study?\u201d<\/p>\n
