{"id":41727,"date":"2023-03-24T17:25:48","date_gmt":"2023-03-24T17:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/namibia-makes-progress-in-water-provision"},"modified":"2023-03-24T20:05:33","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T20:05:33","slug":"namibia-makes-progress-in-water-provision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/namibia-makes-progress-in-water-provision","title":{"rendered":"Namibia makes progress in water provision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>PRIME minister Sara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says 87% of Namibians in the rural areas have access to clean drinking water.<\/p>\n<p>She was speaking at the ongoing United Nations (UN) 2023 Water Conference in New York on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn our quest to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 6 and our national development objectives, Namibia has prioritised and enshrined the water and sanitation sectors into key strategic areas of policy planning,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said access to water for all requires bigger investment and coordination among sectors, and different development partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a strong need for the global water community to engage and share technological expertise to accelerate efforts towards meeting water-related SDGs, beyond the UN 2023 Water Conference,\u201d Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure that water stays permanently high on the political agenda, we reiterate the call for the appointment of a UN Special Envoy on Water, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said there is a need to adapt the UN Water Structure to become a member state driven structure, making it more responsive to present-day realities and better suited for posterity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor this reason, my delegation strongly believes the appointment of a UN Special Envoy on Water would go a long way towards improving coordination among various agencies and bodies currently dealing with the issue of water and help turn it from an internal body to a membership based body,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\">Namibia<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia.
