Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) secretary Ephraim Nekongo said the youth should be free thinkers to avoid being accomplices to situations aimed at making pseudo politicians relevant.<\/p>\n

He said the youth should bear in mind that the government will never forsake them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should not entertain the idea that the government does not care about them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nekongo, who is also a Swapo member of parliament, did not name these pseudo politicians, and said as a leader of the youth wing of the ruling party, it’s not his practice to resort to personal attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, I am not at liberty to mention people’s names, that is insignificant, however, the truth remains as is.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said there have been pronouncements that the SPYL is quiet on issues affecting young people, creating an impression that it does not care about the generation it represents.<\/p>\n

Nekongo said this is untrue.<\/p>\n

According to him, SPYL held a meeting of its national executive committee over the weekend, where issues of youth employment were discussed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will update the nation soon on the way forward,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Last week, Popular Democratic Movement parliamentarian Inna Hengari and activists Dimbulukeni Nauyoma and Michael Amushelelo were arrested by the police in Windhoek for leading an unsanctioned demonstration over the high unemployment rate in the country.<\/p>\n

Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) deputy president Kalimbo Iipumbu described the arrests as unholy, despicable and a shameful violation of fundamental rights.<\/p>\n

Hengari hit back at Nekongo yesterday, saying he has not introduced a single motion or debate in parliament which addresses empowering young people.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe must focus on existing as a national leader, not just within the precinct of parliament, and not just in his chicken cage, but beyond the confines of comfort.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a member of the governing party he does not only have the platform to advance the youth agenda, but he has the access and the resources to ‘score political points’, yet he has done nothing.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe spends his time taking videos of cabbages and chickens, and telling our young people ‘this is what the government should be doing’. What level of hypocrisy is that?\u201d she asks.<\/p>\n

Hengari says the nation is hungry and unemployed, and everyone should fight these social challenges and put aside their egos.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is why we extend an invitation to Nekongo to the upcoming national demonstration on youth unemployment. The young people are looking forward to seeing him there.\u201d<\/p>\n
