Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THROUGH public-to-public procurement, the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture plans to build 510 classrooms and 70 ablution facilities at current schools in all 14 areas.<\/p>\n

Recently, while submitting her budget request to members of parliament, Minister of Education Anna Nghipondoka made this revelation.<\/p>\n

Nghipondoka, who is asking for approval of the ministry\u2019s proposed N$16.8 billion budget allocation, said that the development budget allocation of N$577 million represents 3.5% of the total budget allotted to the Ministry and will primarily cover ongoing commitments, particularly on education physical facility rehabilitation and construction.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn an attempt to make a significant dent in the estimated 4,479 national backlog of permanent classroom needs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Nghipondoka noted that the overcrowding in some classrooms across the nation, particularly in urban areas, must be addressed at least by the end of the second quarter of the 2023 academic year.<\/p>\n

She emphasized that the goal is to make sure the ministry has enough classroom area to support the steadily increasing number of their learners.<\/p>\n
