Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Namibia Football Association (NFA) is currently conducting a grassroots coaching course for new coaches working with junior footballers from age groups of six to12, while a special focus is also being placed on academy coaches and school teachers.<\/p>\n

The course started Tuesday this week and ends tomorrow. The same course will also be hosted in Walvis Bay from the 1st to the 4th of next month, thanks to the financial support by Global United FC and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. NFA acting technical director Jacque Shipanga has emphasised the growing importance of grassroots initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe main objective of grassroots football in Namibia is to allow football to be discovered by as many people as possible. The best way of attracting children is to give them playing opportunities in their own safe environment. Grassroots football is for everyone, anytime and anywhere.<\/p>\n

The key concept of grassroots football is to bring society together through the most popular sport in the world. This grassroots coaching course advocates exchanging, sharing positive values and promotes fun in playing football,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The concept of learning through play while being guided by a coach is a specific approach designed to reach out to children. Grassroots coaches must have the core competences to work with children and must respect their physical, mental, emotional and growth characteristics, Shipanga further highlighted.<\/p>\n

The grassroots coaching course has 31 participants and the course instructors are Collin Benjamin and Shipanga, while the mentee instructors are Arnold Subeb and Diina Shitula.<\/p>\n
