Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Association for Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN) unveiled its strategic blueprint plan as part of an effort to speed up the delivery of serviced land and housing plots that meet acceptable standards.<\/p>\n

The plan\u2019s main goal is to make sure local governments provide citizens with affordable housing and land.<\/p>\n

By building 500 000 homes around the nation for the citizens, ALAN hopes to address the housing need by the year 2033.<\/p>\n

Oshikoto governor Penda Ya Ndakolo said the Blueprint will help the local authorities develop plans to suit all residents, such as ultra-low income, low-income, middle income and high-income groups.<\/p>\n

Ya Ndakolo indicated that while celebrating this achievement, there are still housing and human settlement challenges that are very real and complex, therefore, requiring bold and imaginative solutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is still an urgency to ensure housing development in the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ya Ndakolo said that the development and implementation of the Blueprint come at the right time when there is an urgent need to explore new and innovative ways of construction and fast tracking land delivery and urban design that are sustainable and meet the needs of the people through strategic collaboration and intergovernmental partnerships.<\/p>\n

He urged all local authorities leaders to leave no room for corruption, saying corruption is not a victimless crime, it has a direct and negative impact on the lives of the people.<\/p>\n

Ya Ndakolo emphasised that corruption steals resources meant to benefit residents.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the launch, ALAN president Samuel !Oe-Amseb said the association is determined to deliver on housing and land by 2033.<\/p>\n

\u201cHousing and land delivery is at the core of our hearts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that they will make it a target to address housing backlog in the country.<\/p>\n

!Oe-Amseb is confidence that they can achieve the set objectives.<\/p>\n
