Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>A TOTAL of 49 households from the Oshoopala Informal Area have been successfully relocated to the Onawa New Reception by the Oshakati Town Council.<\/p>\n

This information was shared by Oshakati Mayor Leonard Hango, who said that Phase 1 of the Oshoopala relocation project was completed successfully during the 2023\/23 financial year.<\/p>\n

Hango mentioned that Phase 2 of the Oshoopala relocation, currently ongoing in the 2023\/24 financial year, has already commenced and is expected to be completed by June 30, 2023.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Hango highlighted that the formalization of Oshakati\u2019s informal settlements is one of the crucial projects in the council\u2019s strategic plan for the next five years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have already achieved successful formalization in four of our informal settlements, namely Evululuko, Pohamba location, part of Okandjengedi south, Ompumbu Proper, and Phase One of Uupindi south,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that the servicing of Oshakati North (Ehenye) Extension 11, which consists of approximately 283 plots with roads, water, sewer, and electricity, commenced in March 2022.<\/p>\n

Hango indicated that the construction of water, sewer, and electrical reticulations has been completed 100%, while the construction of roads and stormwater infrastructure is 85% completed and expected to be finalized by the end of May this year.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the Council has already allocated residential plots in the Ehenye area, and house construction is currently underway.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the construction of the Oshakati Fire Station is 95% complete and expected to reach 100% completion by the end of this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe construction of 452 plots in Onawa with water reticulation services only has been completed. This project was executed by our technical team,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Hango said that this area primarily aims to accommodate ultra-low-income residents who will be relocated from Oshoopala in Phase 2 of the relocation program.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the construction of water reticulation in Ompumbu Proper, where over 300 plots have been serviced, was successfully completed in January.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil has made it a priority to improve gravel roads and prevent potholes from recurring in Oshakati. We have earmarked a project for re-gravelling roads, which has already commenced in Evululuko and various areas in Oshakati. Phase 1 of the project has been completed successfully,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Council has also appointed Oshakati Premier Electrical (OPE) to provide overhead electrical infrastructure for Onawa Extension 5-9, serving 770 plots.<\/p>\n

Hango said that these are the same areas where Oshakati residents are allocated plots as they are relocated from various locations in Oshakati. The contractor was appointed by OPE in February and is expected to complete the project within six months.<\/p>\n\r\n
