Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>IN Kavango West, there are still 153 settlements that lack access to clean water sources, according to regional governor Sirkka Ausiku. This was highlighted during her recent State of the Region Address (SORA).<\/p>\n

Ausiku stated that out of the 405 villages in the region, the majority of which are in the Mpungu Constituency, 153 villages are still without access to water.<\/p>\n

The governor expressed appreciation for the Ministry\u2019s efforts in drilling, installing, and rehabilitating boreholes in these communities. She also acknowledged the support from the private sector, particularly ReconNamibia and Metzger Drilling, for their contributions to water provision in the community.<\/p>\n

However, Ausiku emphasized that more needs to be done in this area. She called on the Ministry and Namwater to construct water pipelines along the national roads in the region.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, she appealed to the communities to protect these facilities from theft and vandalism by organizing neighbourhood watch initiatives.<\/p>\n

Regarding sanitation, Ausiku mentioned that the Rural Sanitation program continues to be implemented in the region. However, she stressed the need for increased budget allocation under this program to address sanitation challenges more effectively.<\/p>\n
