Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Popular recreational site Dune 7 will be operated by Sandwich Dune Tours and Safari after the environment ministry awarded the Dune 7 concession inside the Dorob National Park to the tour operating company.<\/p>\n

The ministry has faced challenges in managing the area, primarily due to vandalism and litter, leading to the decision to grant the concession.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made yesterday by ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda.<\/p>\n

Dune 7 is globally renowned as one of the most popular coastal tourist attractions. Located approximately seven kilometres from Walvis Bay, it is a must-visit destination for coastal tourists. It attracts thousands of visitors each year.<\/p>\n

Romeo Muyunda, the spokesperson for the ministry, explained that the ablution facilities and other infrastructure at the recreational area had been extensively vandalised, rendering them non-functional and imposing significant repair costs on the ministry.<\/p>\n

Muyunda added that following the concession grant, the recreational site is expected to undergo a significant transformation.<\/p>\n

As a long-term solution, the ministry advertised in November last year for interested individuals and companies to submit proposals to manage the area on behalf of the ministry.<\/p>\n

The tender process, according to Muyunda, was in November and closed on 27 January 2023. It attracted interest from 18 companies, and Sandwich Dune Tours and Safari emerged as the successful bidder due to the strength of their proposal.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo further enhance visitor experience, the company will offer various adventure activities at the site, including paragliding, dune climbing, stargazing, as well as tours to Walvis Bay. Sandwich Dune Tours and Safari will also develop a daily open restaurant, capable of hosting special events, such as weddings or corporate functions. The restaurant will feature a swimming pool and a late-night bar. Additionally, the company plans to construct 10 luxury chalets for overnight accommodation,\u201d Muyunda elaborated.<\/p>\n

Muyunda mentioned that entrance to the restaurant would be free, while the company would charge different levies for other activities at Dune 7.<\/p>\n

Specific details regarding pricing will be communicated once the company begins its operations.<\/p>\n

Attempts to reach Kenneth Kapitako, the owner of Sandwich Dune Tours and Safari, for comment proved futile.<\/p>\n
