Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The rehabilitation and reintegration of former convicted offenders are crucial elements for an effective and comprehensive justice system to thrive and cannot be relegated to mere options.<\/p>\n This position was advanced by Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) deputy commissioner general for corporate management Anna-Rose Katjivena at a press conference in Windhoek yesterday.<\/p>\n She said this while unveiling this year\u2019s Correctional Service Day, themed \u2018Striving towards a safe society through rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders\u2019.<\/p>\n It is Katjivena\u2019s position that rehabilitation and reintegration are crucial components of an effective and comprehensive justice system.<\/p>\n \u201cWe firmly believe that by focusing on rehabilitation and reintegration, we can break the cycle of crime, contribute to the reduction of recidivism rates and foster a safer society for all,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n Traditionally celebrated on 27 March each year, this year\u2019s Correctional Service Day event will take place on 20 July at the Lucius Sumbwanyambe Mahoto Correctional Services Training College in Omaruru.<\/p>\n The commemoration provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the important role of correctional officers in the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n \u201cIt helps educate the public about the complexities and demands of our profession, fostering a better understanding and appreciation for our work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The event will be attended by heads of correctional services from Botswana, Eswatini, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n These representatives will be present to share experiences and learn from each other as part of a tradition of benchmarking at events of this nature.<\/p>\n The commemoration will feature various activities, including the inspection of the parade by the president and vice president, the awarding of service medals to deserving officers and offenders, prestige drills, an exhibition showcasing the NCS’ manufactured products and rehabilitation efforts, as well as a street march.<\/p>\n For More News And Analysis About Namibia<\/a> Follow Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Loide Jason Africa-Press – Namibia.
