Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Oshakati Town Council officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art fire station at Ehenye area on Friday. The fire station was constructed at a cost of N$8.8 million.<\/p>\n Phase 1 of the infrastructure includes a call centre, firefighters\u2019 dominators, a fitting room, and parking areas for firefighting equipment.<\/p>\n Town Mayor Leonard Hango said that the station will be constructed in phases, with phase 2 estimated to cost the council N$6.7 million.<\/p>\n Hango mentioned that the new structure replaces the old one, which was a corrugated sheet structure located near the council civic centre. He emphasized that due to the town\u2019s growth, there was a need to establish a fully equipped fire station at the town\u2019s centre.<\/p>\n The new station is conveniently located at Ehenye, allowing firefighters to effectively respond to fire incidents in all corners of the town.<\/p>\n The first phase was constructed at a cost of N$8.8 million, while the second phase will be constructed at a cost of N$6.7 million.<\/p>\n Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, officially inaugurated the new station on Friday. He highlighted that this initiative is part of the government\u2019s effort to bring services closer to the people.<\/p>\n During the same occasion, Uutoni also inaugurated the Oshakati landfill site, which was constructed at a cost of N$6.5 million.<\/p>\n Hango expressed his pride in the significant development taking place in the town.<\/p>\n The Oshakati landfill site is one of the four towns that have a landfill site, while other towns are still operating with a dumpsite.\r\n
