Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>TO effectively ensure safety and security, it is crucial to provide necessary support to the men and women in uniform.<\/p>\n

James Uerikua, the Governor of the Otjozondjupa region, highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the Namibian Police in the region during his recent State of the Region Address (SORA).<\/p>\n

Uerikua specifically addressed the shortage of housing for the police, emphasizing the need for proper shelter for law enforcement officers.<\/p>\n

According to Uerikua, there is still a significant shortage of housing for men and women in uniform. He urged all Local Authorities to make land available for housing purposes to address this issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is also a need for a police pathology unit in the region,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Uerikua noted that during the review period, 15 vehicles were decommissioned, and 50% to 60% of the fleet remains grounded due to accidents and mechanical problems.<\/p>\n

In addition, Uerikua highlighted that the Mangetti Dune, Okakarara, Rooidag, Osire, Hochfeld, Kalkfeld, Kombat Police Stations, and the Otjiwarongo Crime Investigation Unit currently lack vehicles.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that transportation from nearby stations is being sourced to assist these stations in cases of emergency.<\/p>\n
