Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Rehoboth Town Council is calling for the expression of interest to set up a solar power plant at the town.<\/b><\/p>\n

The council says it has been inundated by applications from individuals wanting to establish solar power plants as joint ventures. \u201cThese applications have become significant in numbers, and the council cannot provide an assessment for each of them, either to assess their competitiveness and relevance and\/or compliance,\u201d said the council in a media advertisement yesterday.<\/p>\n

The council said to identify the best partner through fair and transparent principles, a resolution has been passed to call for the expression of interest from reputable and experienced local companies to erect a solar plant at the town.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Rehoboth Town Council will make available the required land (12,5 ha) within one kilometre of the in-feed point to a NamPower in-feed to allow the plant to comply with the respective grid codes applicable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe evaluation criteria will be issued to parties intending to submit bids based on a terms sheet that will be distributed accordingly,\u201d the council said.<\/p>\n

According to the council, key drivers will be the cost of electricity, tariff structures, escalation over the lifespan of the proposed plant, managing construction, the operation and closure\/rehabilitation of the site after its useful life, and the position of the submitting party in terms of financial standing, local experience, and local resources.<\/p>\n

The council said all information required by prospective bidders will be made available and issued accordingly. Successful bidders will be expected to construct and operate a suitable plant to comply with the rules of the modified single-buyer market model in terms of capacity, the council said.<\/p>\n

Requests to participate in the expression of interest must be submitted by 12 November, and the last request for clarification will be on 19 November.<\/p>\n
