Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Hyphen Hydrogen Energy and the Government of the Republic of Namibia (GRN) have unveiled a groundbreaking socio-economic development framework (SED Framework) for Namibia\u2019s landmark $10 billion green hydrogen project.<\/p>\n

The SED Framework, a pivotal aspect of the Feasibility and Implementation Agreement (FIA), underscores the GRN\u2019s commitment to incorporating socio-economic development targets for renewable hydrogen developers in the country\u2019s green H2 strategy implementation.<\/p>\n

Beyond meeting legal requirements, the SED Framework reflects Hyphen\u2019s dedication to maximizing Namibian participation in the project. It outlines objectives for local procurement, employment, skills development, and enterprise and supplier development.<\/p>\n

During the official launch ceremony, both Hyphen and the GRN highlighted the SED Framework\u2019s role in promoting Namibia\u2019s socio-economic well-being. The project is poised to empower local communities, generate employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and contribute to a sustainable future for the country.<\/p>\n

Toni Beukes, Hyphen\u2019s Head of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), expressed ambition in setting a global benchmark for sustainable and equitable development in large-scale green hydrogen projects, with a focus on inclusive economics and robust environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n

The green hydrogen project is anticipated to generate up to 15,000 new jobs during the construction phase, with 3,000 permanent positions once operational. A key objective is to have 90% of these jobs filled by Namibians, with 20% earmarked for youth.<\/p>\n

The project also aims for 30% local procurement of goods, services, and materials during both the construction and operational phases.<\/p>\n

Governed by the pioneering FIA, the development, implementation, and operation of Namibia\u2019s first green hydrogen project will make it the largest and \u201conly fully vertically integrated\u201d initiative of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n

To foster community engagement and awareness, Hyphen and GRN have planned a 3-month national roadshow, starting in August, targeting local communities, businesses, and individuals across Namibia. The roadshow aims to provide detailed insights into the SED Framework and explain the project\u2019s mechanics and potential benefits for the nation.<\/p>\n

This development signifies a significant milestone for Namibia and the broader green hydrogen industry. The SED Framework sets a new standard for sustainable and equitable development in large-scale green hydrogen projects and is poised to attract further investment in the sector.<\/p>\n
