Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>NAMIBIA and Botswana have reached a mutual consensus to mitigate roaming charges between the mobile network operators of the two countries.<\/p>\n

This agreement was reached during the final day of the working visit of ICT Minister Peya Mushelenga to the Republic of Botswana. The Minister and his delegation, which included the ministry\u2019s Executive Director, Audrin Mathe, are expected to return home on Thursday.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, this collaborative decision is based on a shared communique\u0301 endorsed by Minister Mushelenga and his Botswanan counterpart, Hon. Thulagano Segokgo, responsible for Communications, Knowledge, and Technology.<\/p>\n

In a combined effort, the regulatory bodies of both nations, namely the Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority and the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), will engage in discussions to develop a coordinated framework, involving consultations with mobile network operators. The primary goal is to create a harmonious agreement to reduce roaming charges between Namibia and Botswana.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, they have agreed to explore the possibility of implementing a uniform percentage fee to manage roaming expenses between the two countries. Both Ministers reiterated their commitment to executing the decision of SADC Ministers by March 2024.<\/p>\n
