Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Far North Volleyball Association (FNVA) ended its 2023 league season on Saturday after four months of action.<\/p>\n

The association consists of 10 male and four female teams.<\/p>\n

FNVA chairperson Festus Hamukwaya told Nampa it was a good season for them as there were some exciting volleyball games.<\/p>\n

He added that for the 2024 season, which starts in April next year, the association plans to go full force and will try to sensitise corporate Namibia in order to secure a sponsorship.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition, we are planning to have club championships as an association as well as a beach volleyball league,\u201d Hamukwaya said.<\/p>\n

Also speaking to Nampa was the association\u2019s secretary general Saima Uushona who described the season as exciting as the league took place at four venues in Ondangwa, Ongwediva, Omuthiya, and Eenhana.<\/p>\n

She said new teams have also recently joined the association, namely Scadiva, Ondjumba, Oshana Police, and UNAM HP, noting that the league is showing progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do have quite a number of challenges, such as finances, especially when it comes to registration fees and transportation, because some clubs have players who are unemployed.<\/p>\n

As a result, we have lost clubs that could not afford the registration fees due to financial constraints, and the association is unable to support such clubs because it runs on a small budget that comes from the clubs when they register,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She went on to say that the money is used to pay the referees, reward trophies and medals, and buy nets and balls.<\/p>\n

Uushona, however, said despite the challenges, the teams have shown improvement from the way they used to play due to the exposure they get.<\/p>\n
