Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Otjiwarongo-based netball outfit Mighty Gunners continued their fine performance in the country\u2019s top-flight netball league, winning back-to-back matches on Saturday and yesterday at Ruacuana.<\/p>\n The two wins over the weekend saw them tied at the top of the league with the league\u2019s inaugural champions, Namibia Correctional Service (NSC).<\/p>\n On Saturday, Gunners beat Fatou, who have yet to register a win in the league, by 60-23 points before going on to defeat 10th-placed Rebels, 62-28, on Sunday.<\/p>\n Reacting to the weekend\u2019s games, Desiree Namases, the spokesperson for Gunners, said the games were tough, although they managed to execute their plans and collect maximum points.<\/p>\n \u201cWe headed into the weekend with the mindset of winning our matches because we are approaching the end of the season and it won\u2019t be wise for us to lose points as we are still in the quest to retain the title, she said.<\/p>\n Speaking about the way forward, Namases said they intend to win all of their remaining games.<\/p>\n \u201cI know it\u2019s still difficult to determine where we stand, as NSC is also in contention. So, we hope to maintain the same momentum by not losing any games and ensuring we collect a good number of points in the last remaining fixtures. This is a<\/p>\n chieved by winning the remaining matches by a large margin,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n In other results on Saturday and yesterday, Namibia Navy, who are third in the standings, beat Rebels 53-33, while Otjozondjupa Nampol fell short to Young Stars with a score of 38-41 on Saturday. Mighty Gunners also succumbed to Navy by 51\u201335.<\/p>\n yesterday, Otjozondjupa Nampol redeemed themselves from Saturday\u2019s defeat as they beat Northern Fly Ballers by 47-33, while Navy thrashed Fatou 77-27.<\/p>\n In 2021, telecommunications giant MTC announced that it would become the principal sponsor of the 12-team national netball league with a cash injection of N$4.8 million over three years.
