Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Capricorn Foundation has reiterated its steadfast dedication to empowering rural artisans by announcing the renewal of its partnership with the esteemed Omba Arts Trust.<\/p>\n

Established over three decades ago, the Omba Arts Trust stands as a notable not-for-profit social enterprise focused on fostering sustainable livelihoods through artistic and craft-based endeavours.<\/p>\n

The Trust has left an indelible mark on the lives of numerous Namibian rural artisans, artists, and their families, achieving this through the cultivation and promotion of some of Namibia\u2019s most iconic handicrafts and contemporary San art.<\/p>\n

Since 2021, the Capricorn Foundation has been a staunch supporter of the Omba Arts Trust, demonstrating its commitment through a financial pledge of N$240,000.00.<\/p>\n

This funding is directed towards crucial logistical support in the production and sale of handicrafts, essential training, and vital food assistance. Currently, the Omba Arts Trust provides invaluable support to a cohort of more than 460 rural artisans.<\/p>\n

Notably, within this group, 32 artisans are located in the Okaku Constituency, situated near Ondangwa. The initiative titled \u201cNyeka ye Pumba,\u201d initiated in 1996 by the Omba Arts Trust, operates here, focusing on skills enhancement and product development.<\/p>\n

Selma Itamelo, serving as the chairperson, and Ester Kasheeta, the secretary, lead the Nyeka ye Pumba project. The endeavour revolves around the intricate art of weaving, yielding an array of products spanning baskets of varying sizes and shapes, bags, and table placemats.<\/p>\n

With utmost dedication, Itamelo and Kasheeta guide the group, ensuring the fulfilment of orders from Omba and maintaining timely production and delivery of crafted items.<\/p>\n

During a recent visit in August, the Capricorn Foundation had the privilege of engaging with the artisans and admiring their diverse range of woven creations.<\/p>\n

Marlize Horn, the Capricorn Foundation Executive Officer, underscored the organization\u2019s commitment to community-centered social enterprises and initiatives fostering entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n

She conveyed, \u201cAs Advocates of Positive Transformation, our partnership with the Omba Arts Trust stands as a cornerstone within our broader economic advancement focus.<\/p>\n

Witnessing the progress achieved within communities through empowerment is a source of immense pride. Our interaction with the \u2018Nyeka ye Pumba\u2019 project reaffirmed our belief in the potential of rural communities to achieve self-sustainability and empowerment.<\/p>\n

This reaffirms our deep-seated pride in the enduring partnership with the Omba Arts Trust, an alliance that propels the empowerment of countless rural artisans.
\nEster Kasheeta expressed her gratitude for the Omba Arts Trust\u2019s impact on the lives of artisans, stating, \u201cThe Omba Arts Trust has been a transformative force in our lives.<\/p>\n

Previously, we struggled to receive fair compensation for our creations. However, with the Trust\u2019s guidance and market access, we now garner meaningful income from our craft sales. Amidst challenging times, such as the ongoing drought, Omba\u2019s support ensures our ability to provide for our families and educate our children. \u201d<\/p>\n

Another artisan, representing the \u201cHand in Hand\u201d project within the Omaheke region\u2019s Drimiopsis, shared her thoughts: \u201cResiding on a resettlement farm situated far from urban centres, we, as women, confronted limited job opportunities.<\/p>\n

The cohesive force of Omba is what binds us together. Through their unwavering assistance, we are enabled to nurture our families and children. Today, I proudly own my own home.
\nIn essence, the Capricorn Foundation\u2019s renewed collaboration with the Omba Arts Trust serves as a testament to the enduring impact that thoughtful partnerships and support mechanisms can bring to the lives of rural artisans and their communities.<\/p>\n
