Moses Helao’s company had been doing extremely well by selling a unique range of karakul carpets, which is especially popular with tourists. Unfortunately the Covid-19 pandemic hit the tourism industry hard, and the company suffered great losses.Although he had to temporarily let go of six of his employees and keep six, Helao has been working hard at strategies to generate money, while thinking about the welfare of his employees.”It is tough. We only sold one carpet in July and one in August and I have the company’s expenses and salaries to pay, but I cannot let my employees down. I make sure that especially the ones at home are fed. I will fight for their survival,\u201d he said.Helao decided to put some products on auction yesterday and the Swakopmund community and holidaymakers were able to bid for the quality carpets.”The auction went well. We sold some carpets and that will at least cover some of the operational costs and salaries. I appeal to Namibians to support us, so that we can keep the families fed.
