Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>IN a show of unity to prevent and curb crime, especially against tourists, a voluntary guard association became the first recipient of Gondwana Collection\u2019s Tourism Heroes Awards.<\/p>\n

In a historic event, parliamentarians from all political parties represented in the National Assembly stood in unity and support of Gondwana\u2019s Tourism Heroes Fund during an unusual special tea break. This event was hosted by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, in Parliament\u2019s Courtyard.<\/p>\n

The campaign\u2019s primary objective is to reduce crime, especially against tourists, by recognizing and rewarding individuals for their efforts in fighting and preventing crime.<\/p>\n

The first award was presented to Peter Boer, the Founder and Chairman of Tourism Against Crime (TAC), in recognition of his organization\u2019s crime-fighting and prevention efforts in the country. He accepted the award on behalf of TAC, which includes a trophy and N$20,000, for their exceptional contributions to crime-fighting and prevention in the country.<\/p>\n

Boer explained that the organization, established in 2020, is vetted by the Namibian Police but operates as a private entity. He disclosed that TAC consists of 18 members, all of whom are tour guides responsible for patrolling all regions of the country to ensure the safety of everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis award Gondwana gave to me because we patrol a lot in the capital, trying to prevent crimes,\u201d Boer said.<\/p>\n

TAC is merely the first recipient of the Tourism Heroes Fund, and the public is encouraged to nominate additional heroes deserving recognition for their efforts in safeguarding and providing hospitality to tourists in Namibia.<\/p>\n
