{"id":54656,"date":"2023-09-28T16:59:25","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T16:59:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/villagers-shun-police-outreach"},"modified":"2023-09-28T17:26:20","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T17:26:20","slug":"villagers-shun-police-outreach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/villagers-shun-police-outreach","title":{"rendered":"Villagers shun police outreach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Oshakati police officers were left disappointed after only two villagers from Engobe village in the Uuvudhiya constituency showed up for outreach at the councillor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>The police drove out to the village to render services, such as declarations, certifications of copies of documents and opening of cases.<\/p>\n<p>Regional operation detective Lavinia Shilongo maintained that the villagers are sometimes intimidated by the police and hence refuse to attend anything that has to do with the police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe came to bring police services closer to them due to the long distances they travel to the nearest police station, which is in Oshakati, and also to cut on transport expenses,\u201d said Shilongo.<\/p>\n<p>While waiting at the outreach point, Shilongo decided to go look for the villagers at the cuca shops, and she found them there, drinking tombo.<\/p>\n<p>Shilongo urged the villagers to show up at the next outreach point, as the police are only there to help with anything that requires the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to prevent and lessen crime, we should please open cases against the criminals.
