Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Ondangwa Town Council is confident its economy will get a handsome boost from the soon-to-be-completed road upgrade of the Oluno Extension 1 road to bitumen standard.<\/p>\n

Oluno is one of the oldest settlements that has faced challenges with the road network for some time and the Oluno Extension 1 road is a welcome development.<\/p>\n

Ondangwa Town Council spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said, the council began upgrading a 1.3km stretch of gravel road to bitumen standard at a cost of N$1.8 million in July this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project is 80% complete, and if no rains fall in the coming days, we will see its full completion this month,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

This road upgrade is in addition to another one the town council started upgrading in August, covering 1.4km of bitumen and a concrete channel.<\/p>\n

However, this project is still at its infancy, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said when funds become available, the town council will continue improving its service delivery to the residents by constructing quality roads and other municipal services to most of the old settlements.<\/p>\n

The town\u2019s chief executive officer Ismael Namugongo said they will continue bringing quality roads and municipal services to most of the old settlements.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe town also faces a plethora of challenges, including poor infrastructure development, sewer, and water shortages in the old settlements including Oluno,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

But a total of 160 erven at Ondangwa\u2019s Onguta location were connected to a new sewer pump station recently, said Namugongo.<\/p>\n

The project which cost about N$7.5 million was completed in June this year.<\/p>\n

The town council has thus far managed to connect 178 erven to water and sewerage networks, and the erven have already been occupied.<\/p>\n
