Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>AFTER an eight-year hiatus, Damara DikDing (whose real name is Arthur \/Nanub) is back in the limelight with a new album titled \u201cNamibian\u201d, which he believes embodies patriotism and the love of Namibia.<\/b><\/p>\n

The last time he was on the music scene was in 2013, when he released his album called \u201cBeats from the Heart\u201d, which landed him the artist of the year, best producer and best Damara Punch awards at the Namibian Annual Music Awards.<\/p>\n

This time around, his new album is a dedication to Namibia, particularly the Katutura township, and a vehicle for him to advocate the development of a corruption- and disease-free society and he urges Namibians to pull together as one force.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Covid-19 was definitely a game changer, it made us appreciate life more and gravitate towards our true callings. I think it touched us all; we have lost so many lives and livelihoods and these things are here in order for us to re-evaluate everything,\u201d he said. He also believes the way the new album was shot is extraordinary and respectful of the times that Namibians are living in.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe shot the music video during Covid health restrictions and limitation on the number of crew members to less than five people. Some crew members were losing family members, which resulted in some delays and so on. It was difficult to select a song that made sense with the times, as we felt we could not promote alcohol and parties in content but rather hope and patriotism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Damara DikDing is a singer, songwriter, composer, arranger and record producer who was raised in Windhoek by a single mother, where he gravitated towards the influence of urban and township music.<\/p>\n

The ‘Papa Se Ne’ singer started his career with the Matongo Family where he joined Strauss ‘Mr Makoya’ Lunyangwe and Themba Matongo and went on to bag several music awards for pioneering kwaito. He eventually started his solo career in 2007 under the name Damara DikDing.<\/p>\n
