Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The national senior women\u2019s field hockey team, gearing up to compete in the upcoming African Cup of Nations (Afcon) Olympic qualifiers in Pretoria, South Africa, received a significant morale boost yesterday when the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) extended their support with a sponsorship worth N$ 227 000.<\/p>\n

This sponsorship is specifically allocated to facilitate the team\u2019s preparation for the Olympic qualifiers, ensuring they are well-prepared for the highly-anticipated 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers in Pretoria, South Africa. Namibia finds itself placed in Pool B, alongside teams from Zambia, Ghana and Kenya.<\/p>\n

During the handover ceremony, NNOC president Abner Xoagub conveyed their support by explaining how they recognised the achievements of the hockey team in the past, leading them to secure funding through the Olympic Solidarity Funds to bolster the team\u2019s preparation.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cHockey teams have consistently elevated their standards over the past few years, competing in various international competitions, and this is something that cannot be overlooked. With the Olympics rapidly approaching, we were compelled to provide funding to assist them in their preparations\u201d.<\/p>\n

Reagon Graig, the president of the Namibian Hockey Union, also extended his gratitude towards the Olympic Committee for their financial assistance. He emphasised that this support is more than just a financial boost; it symbolises the trust and belief the international sporting community has in their potential and dedication.<\/p>\n

He further explained, \u201cThe importance of this financial assistance cannot be overstated. It will not only aid our athletes in honing their skills but also serve as an inspiration for generations to come. It showcases the significance of unity in sports, reminding us that regardless of our background or geographical location, we are all part of the global sporting family\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sedtric Makati, the team\u2019s coach, underscored the significance of the funds, stating that the funding will play a crucial role in their qualification efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis tournament is of utmost importance, as we aim to secure our spot in the Olympics. With the funding we\u2019ve received, it will greatly assist us in our preparations, leaving us with no reasons to fall short in our preparation.\u201d<\/p>\n
