Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Ondangwa Town Council has identified Omahenene location as one of the priority areas to benefit from NORED Electricity through Electrification Corporate Social Investment Funding this year.<\/p>\n

The program, which started in September, will conclude in January 2024.<\/p>\n

This was revealed by Ondangwa Town spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha on Thursday.<\/p>\n

According to Shitalangaho-Mutikisha, the project was planned and was supposed to commence in the 2020\/2021 financial year. However, due to the effects of Covid-19, it was put on hold for implementation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project will provide 300 electrical connections and connections to around 153 households,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She added that electricity is not a privilege but a basic human right. It is a much-needed service by the people, just like others such as water.<\/p>\n

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha explained that Omahenene is one of the oldest informal settlements in Ondangwa, which is also classified as a low-income area.<\/p>\n

In the past, Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said there were a number of challenges associated with an area without electricity, and that will be a thing of the past now with streets, dark areas, and homes being electrified.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor ease of construction and implementation, residents of Omahenene are requested to fully cooperate with the contractor on-site and allow this project to be carried out as planned without any interruption nor delay from their side,\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

She stressed that this is not the only electrification project in Ondangwa. The Council is also busy with another similar project in Omashaka.<\/p>\n

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said the Council appreciates the Ministry of Mines and Energy Electricity coming on board for the electrification project.<\/p>\n

She then extends a call to other entities to collaborate in infrastructure development so that together we improve the livelihood of their residents.<\/p>\n
