Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Government of the Republic of Namibia and her people welcome the prestigious Champion of Press Freedom in Africa Award that was bestowed on Namibia at the recently concluded 10th International Festival of Freedom of Expression and the Press in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.<\/p>\n

Namibia, the home of the Windhoek +30 Declaration, has earned this distinguished recognition for its unwavering commitment to advancing media freedom, having maintained a strong position in the Reporters Without Boarders\u2019 press freedom index, ranking at the top in Africa and 22nd globally.<\/p>\n

Roselia Penda, acting executive director of MICT, said the award underscores the country\u2019s enduring dedication to the ethos of freedom of expression and that of the press.<\/p>\n

\u201cNamibia\u2019s steadfast support for open communication and a free press has not only strengthened our nation\u2019s democracy but also positioned it as a model for many countries in Africa and beyond. Furthermore, Namibia reaffirms its pledge to protect media freedom as enshrined in the Constitution, and renews its commitment to fostering a positive and enabling environment for freedom of expression and access to information,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The award was received on behalf of the government by Dr Audrin Mathe, the executive director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, during the ceremony on Saturday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.<\/p>\n
