Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Ondangwa Town Council has identified the Omahenene location as one of the priority areas to benefit from the Ministry of Mines and Energy\u2019s funding for electrification this year.<\/p>\n Nored will execute the electrification from September this year until January next year.<\/p>\n Ondangwa town council spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said the project was planned to commence in the 2020\/2021 financial year \u2013 but due to the effects of Covid-19, it was put on hold. \u201cThe project will provide 300 electrical connections and connections to around 153 households. Electricity is not a privilege but a basic human right. It is a much-needed service by the people \u2013 just like other basic needs, such as water,\u201d she added. Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said the Omahenene location is one of the oldest informal settlements in the town, and it is also classified as a low-income area.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the past, there were a number of challenges associated with an area without electricity. This will now be a thing of the past, with streets, dark areas and homes all being electrified,\u201d she noted.
