Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Ongwediva City were crowned the youth champions of the Ondjondjo Annual Sports Tournament after defeating Ondjondjo A in the final, one goal to nil, at the Andiba Toivo Ya Toivo soccer field at Ondangwa in the Oshana region.<\/p>\n

The sports tournament featured a football competition and saw 18 youth teams and six veteran teams compete from Friday to Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to Oshana Village Based Football League (OVBFL) Chairperson Herman Paulus, in the veterans\u2019 category, Saffile Legends won the tournament\u2019s legend finals after defeating Cairo Legends on penalties, with four goals to three, after the game ended in a scoreless draw.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a success because the tournament aimed to reach as many teams as possible, and they responded and got the opportunity to play. This helps teams to keep their players fit, position themselves, expose players to crowds, improve where needed, as well as win such big prizes, which means empowering teams,\u201d Paulus said.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Nampa on Tuesday, North West Stream first division outfit Ongwediva City spokesperson Mbango Paulus said winning against Omashaka was not easy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ondjondjo competition was well prepared and organised, and the team management took the opportunity to prepare team players for the season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Paulus further noted that the target is to win the North West first division and secure promotion to the Debmarine Namibia Premiership.<\/p>\n

The tournament was sponsored by Honey Moon business complex from Omashaka, with a total cash injection of N$50 000, including trophies and medals.<\/p>\n
