Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security currently holds 39 168 unclaimed national identification documents (IDs).<\/b><\/p>\n

According to deputy minister Lucia Witbooi, while the ministry has produced a total of 116 354 IDs this year, uncollected IDs are piling up at the ministry.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is against this background that the ministry is humbly calling upon those who have applied for IDs to come and collect their IDs,\u201d Witbooi said at a Cabinet briefing in Windhoek on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Applicants have the option to retrieve their ID at the designated office they specified for collection. Alternatively, they can opt to request the transfer of the ID card to the ministry\u2019s office in their corresponding region.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, since the launch of the online passport application and online work visa application process in March, the ministry has received and processed a total number of 1 421 passport applications through the online application system.<\/p>\n

Overall, 42 890 passports were printed from 1 April to 28 November and 5 530 online applications for work visas have been processed, 16 440 manual applications have also been processed, bringing the total number of work visas issued between 1 April and 28 November to 21 970.<\/p>\n

Additionally, 505 online applications were processed, while 1 270 applications have been manually processed.<\/p>\n
