Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Vice president Nangolo Mbumba on Monday said it is ironic and saddening that the country in which Jesus was born is in the middle of a terrible war, and fewer Christians would be able to visit Bethlehem this festive season.<\/b><\/p>\n

He said this in a Christmas message released today on behalf of president Hage Geingob.<\/p>\n

Mbumba said Namibians should remember people in others parts of the world who are currently subjected to war, social responsibility and political upheaval.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur brothers in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, face the extreme brutality of a terrible war,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mbumba called for the cessation of hostilities so that Palestinians could enjoy peace in their own homes and country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call upon those involved in wars to uphold the fundamental values of human rights, love for mankind and justice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mbumba also celebrated fellow citizens who are upholding national responsibilities, such as nurses, doctors and others providing medical services to those in need.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur security cluster members such as the police, defence force, correctional service and the Central Intelligence Services are on alert to ensure all Namibians enjoy the festive season in an atmosphere of peace and harmony,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mbumba concluded with a plea to all Namibians to avoid the abuse of alcohol and its consequences, such as gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us also abide by the road regulations so we can avoid unnecessary accidents and deaths,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
