Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>INSPECTOR-GENERAL Joseph Shikongo of the Namibian Police Force has urged police officers to treat civilian staff members with decency at all times.<\/p>\n

In an address to all NamPol members on Thursday in Ongwediva, Shikongo made the request, stating that it is unacceptable for some force members to mistreat civilians because they are all part of the same organization.<\/p>\n

According to Shikongo, they must all cooperate as a single unit; any tension between the police and civilian workers is a management issue that has to be resolved as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t want to have \u2018them and us\u2019 in our institution as we are all one team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Further, Shikongo indicated that they intend to cooperate with some of the civilian staff in policies, with the police having already started.<\/p>\n

He indicated that they also received over 400 applications and 263 of their support staff qualified to become police officers.<\/p>\n

On the issue of accessibility, Shikongo said police officers must be accessible to the public at all times. Shikongo also urged officers not to turn members of the public away when seeking police service.<\/p>\n

He then reminded the men and women in uniform that their objective is one which is to provide quality services to the people of Namibia and fight crime to ensure Namibia is a crime-free country and safe for the people.<\/p>\n

Shikongo also called the police officers to always remain boots on the ground and be ready for action.<\/p>\n
