Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>COUNCILLORS of the Maltah\u00f6he Village Council are disgruntled with the actions of fellow councillor Hannah Swartbooi, after she was allegedly caught on camera transporting civilians into a council vehicle.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Swartbooi was caught on tape seemingly blocking the construction of a N$3 million sanitation project. She was believed to have done that because her supporters were not involved in the project.<\/p>\n

The councillor is also accused of discouraging workers and not utilising official council drivers for council-related trips. Members of the council say they have reported the alleged incidents during council meetings, but this was to no avail.<\/p>\n

Acting chief executive officer of the Maltah\u00f6he Village Council Helerita Geingos says the council has no policy on councillors transporting civilians in council vehicles. Councillor Meels Simon, however, says any trip should be authorised by the council.<\/p>\n

\u201cA council resolution has to be taken every time a councillor decides to take a trip with the council vehicle. She has also allowed unauthorised drivers to drive the council vehicle,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Another councillor has confirmed that Swartbooi does not respect any council resolution when scheduling council trips, and embarks on unauthorised trips. Swartbooi, when approached for comment, denied going on unauthorised trips.<\/p>\n

Regarding transporting civilians, she said: \u201cI’ve been elected by the people, and I can’t leave my people on the side of the road. These are people who have voted for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
