Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>President Hage Geingob has returned home following medical treatment in the United States of America, where he underwent a novel medical therapy, the Presidency announced.<\/p>\n

Geingob returned home on Wednesday night, following a two-day treatment for cancerous cells.<\/p>\n

He is currently at a hospital in Windhoek, presidential spokesperson Alfredo Hengari said in a statement issued yesterday. \u201cThe Presidency would like to restate that the medical scientists and professionals who exceptionally invited President Geingob to undertake the novel treatment, which is still in a trial phase, have committed to roll out the technology to Namibia for the benefit of other Namibians after final approvals have been obtained,\u201d Hengari added.<\/p>\n

Geingob will be undergoing the totality of the treatment for the cancerous cells in Namibia. \u201cThe president always emphasises that effective governance is about teamwork, and not a one-man show. In the event of absence from duty due to treatment, the President as head of the executive and chair of the Cabinet will delegate duties to the Vice President [Nangolo Mbumba], the Prime Minister [Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila], the Deputy Prime Minister [Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah], including other members of the Cabinet and the Executive,\u201d Hengari stated. Geingob thanked Namibians from all walks of life, world leaders, and friends for their \u201cprayers, messages of support and well-wishes.\u201d The travel, medical and accommodation expenses of the President were not incurred by the government.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Geingob has shared intricate details about his health.<\/p>\n

In 2014, as Prime Minister at the time, he encouraged people to reduce stigma and dispel myths associated with cancer.<\/p>\n

Geingob also revealed then that he was personally affected when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but luckily it was detected early and he received treatment which stopped it from spreading, Namibian Sun reported then.<\/p>\n
