He described Shixwameni as a principled leader who sacrificed his youth to fight against the apartheid education system and for the liberation of Namibia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe contribution made during his lifetime as a former student leader and as a leader to many is remarkable,\u201d Geingob said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a year which has brought much heartache and pain, in a year we have said many farewells, in a year where our nation\u2019s resilience has been stretched to its limits, we once again gather under the clouds of sorrow, to pay tribute to a fallen Son of the Namibian Soil,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n<p>A 13 gun salute was fired as the casket was lowered into the grave, near those of Shixwameni\u2019s mother and brother.
