This was said by George Fedha, the World Food Programme Namibia country director who said thriving farmers’ markets have loyal customers and great vendors.He was speaking at the two-day Zambezi Horticultural Farmers’ Day show, which opened at Katima Mulilo yesterday where he said customers spend money, return regularly and bring friends.\u201cSuccessful vendors bring great products, friendly smiles and the right pricing, week after week,\u201d he said.\u201cThe horticultural farmers and others we see here today are enhanced by increased demand for local foods; expansion of direct market outlets; access to and use of smaller fragmented land plots; production of high-value crops; and diversified activities including scaling up value-added products.\u201dHe said the World Food Programme in collaboration with the Zambezi Regional Council and its partners had demonstrated commitment to walk this journey with farmers in the region and the whole country, to focus especially on women and the youth, introduce innovation and technology, advocate healthy and nutritious diets and support income generation at household level.He urged visitors to the show, who included the director general of the National Planning Commission, Obeth Kandjoze, and the United Nations Population Fund country director Sheila Roseau, to buy some fruit and vegetables, bring family and friends and leave a smile on the face of the Zambezi farmers.The Katima Mulilo sport was abuzz field as members of the public and farmers came from all over the region, while observing Covid-19 protocols.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
