Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF) is introducing a project to reduce the vulnerability of smallholder farmers due to the impact of climate change in the Kunene region.<\/b><\/p>\n

The project, which will be implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, aims to safeguard natural resources to sustain agricultural production systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe EIF is inviting individual farmers and producers to submit quotations for the supply and delivery of 600 Boer goat ewes and 30 rams,\u201d a media advert calling for quotations said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The project is aimed at improving rangeland and ecosystem management practices of smallholder farmers at specifically Sesfontein, Fransfontein, and Warmquelle.<\/p>\n

It intends to implement a small-stock revolving programme in the Sesfontein constituency and the Khorixas district. Each of the two targeted areas will receive 300 ewes and 15 rams.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe objective of this revolving programme is to provide a quality core breeding flock of goats that are suitable for the arid conditions prevailing in the Kunene region to selected vulnerable households to gain a sustainable means of income generation and enhanced food security,\u201d the EIF said.<\/p>\n

According to the advert, the goats offered must be between 12 and 24 months old. \u201cPreference will be given to farmers and producers from the Kunene region, and bidders must select one area to supply.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo bidders from the Kunene, north of the redline, are expected to supply 150 ewes and seven rams each, while two producers from south of the redline are expected to supply 150 ewes and eight rams each.\u201d<\/p>\n

The EIF advised farmers to quote transport costs separately as they are expected to deliver the goats to Khorixas and Sesfontein. \u201cBidders must indicate where the goats were sourced from, and must provide a police declaration as proof of ownership of the goats,\u201d the EIF said.
