Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Japanese government officially handed over the Zambezi VTC\u2019s new buildings and equipment worth N$50 million.<\/p>\n

The assistance comes from the Japanese government under the Japanese Economic and Development Programme to Namibia, which was signed in September 2020.<\/p>\n

Minister of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation Dr. Itah Kandjii-Murangi said TVET is imperative for Namibia\u2019s industrialization and overall development, which heavily relies on the development of a skilled workforce to drive innovation and contribute to economic diversification.<\/p>\n

According to Kandjii-Murangi, TVET is crucial because it equips individuals with skill sets that enable them to cope in a rapidly evolving world.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, she indicated that TVET bridges the gap between education and employment, empowering youth to contribute meaningfully to the growth and prosperity of our nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThus, a responsive and industry-relevant TVET sector also stands central in overturning Namibia\u2019s unemployment challenge, which is one of the biggest stumbling blocks towards expanding and modernizing our economy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She added that the impact of unemployment and underemployment in a highly segmented labour market like our own impedes economic growth.<\/p>\n

Kandjii-Murangi indicated that this extensive investment by the government, and in some instances with assistance from development partners, toward this infrastructure development, is an integral part of their National TVET Transformation Policy, sanctioned by Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP 1).<\/p>\n

She stressed that the overarching goal of the TVET Transformation Policy has been, and still is, to accelerate the expansion and visibility of TVET in the regions; increase access to TVET; and diversify TVET career pathways at TVET Centres across the country.<\/p>\n

Kandjii-Murangi then extended her profound appreciation to the government of Japan for the sustained support to Namibia\u2019s TVET Sector, and Japan\u2019s commitment to invest in their TVET sector is commendable.<\/p>\n

She added that this demonstrates a shared belief in the power of education and training to transform lives, and Japan\u2019s support symbolizes the enduring friendship and collaboration between the two nations.<\/p>\n\r\n
