Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba has officially launched the UNAM Foundation, aimed at addressing the country\u2019s education challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am pleased to note that UNAM, under the auspices of the UNAM Council and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, has established the Foundation to augment government efforts by enlisting stakeholders to secure additional resources for providing excellent educational infrastructure, quality teaching, learning, innovation, and research,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that the foundation\u2019s primary objective is to create a well-resourced and conducive environment to aid students in becoming well-rounded graduates. The president further revealed that the foundation has initiated a bursary program with the objective of assisting needy students in reducing barriers to accessing quality higher education.<\/p>\n

President Mbumba added that the establishment of the UNAM Foundation is well-aligned with the Namibian government\u2019s commitment to improving the overall quality of education. He reiterated that education remains a top priority for the government, serving as a crucial component in the transformation of Namibian society from absolute and general poverty towards shared prosperity.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince 1990, when we achieved our independence, successive SWAPO Party Governments have strived to improve the economic conditions of our people, particularly Namibian youth. Therefore, it came as no surprise when, in 2015, the late President Geingob\u2019s administration declared poverty a key focus area to be addressed,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the government has invested heavily in the education sector since independence, pointing out that this year alone, the Minister of Finance announced a budget of N$18.3 billion for education, which was the second-highest allocation.<\/p>\n\r\n
