Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>RENOWNED promoter Nestor Tobias says their next boxing event will be in honour of Namibia\u2019s late President Hage Geingob.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference in the capital yesterday, Tobias said the event, which was originally intended to celebrate Namibia\u2019s independence, will now commemorate the late Geingob\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n

He reflected on the support Geingob provided to aspiring boxers like himself and Harry Simon, emphasising the pivotal role played by the late President in their careers. He highlighted how Geingob\u2019s assistance contributed to Simon\u2019s success in his first world title fight, prompting them to dedicate the event to celebrating his legacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe underwent significant challenges as young, aspiring boxers, alongside Simon. His firm support in foreign lands was invaluable; he consistently provided us with the necessary resources to ensure our fights proceeded smoothly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Simon prepared for his first world title fight, the pivotal role played by Hage Geingob cannot be overstated. It is only fitting that we take this opportunity to honour Geingob and his enduring legacy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The event, scheduled for 27 April at Ramatex complex, will feature Fillipus Nghitumbwa against De Kang Wang for the vacant WBO International super-bantamweight title.<\/p>\n

Tobias stressed the significance of the upcoming fight, emphasising the need to aim for a high rating to secure a world title challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis upcoming match carries significant weight, and we must earn a high rating. Achieving a high rating is the pathway to challenging for the world title through mandatory status. In my view, this represents the most effective route to vie for the world title,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Energy\u2019 expressed readiness for the fight, underscoring the importance of constant preparedness for boxers. He indicated determination to win the bout, driven by his aspirations to challenge for a world title, referencing his previous fight in Asia.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am ready, and you know, as a boxer, you should always be ready. So, I have all my sparring partners here, and you know we have been working hard. I am willing to take him down as I would like to challenge for the world title, and you guys know how my last fight in Asia ended,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In addition to the headline fight, the event will showcase various amateur bouts and a women\u2019s boxing match. Tobias underlined the inclusivity of the event, stating that it was crucial to involve everyone in honouring and celebrating the late Geingob\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n

Tickets are pegged at N$20 000 a table; general tickets are N$50 and VIP tickets are N$200.<\/p>\n
