Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>More than 300 farmers from the Ohangwena region received garden tools and small-scale irrigation systems valued at N$2,2 million on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The \/\/Kharas, Zambezi and Kavango West regions will also receive N$2,2 million each.<\/p>\n

The items, which are funded by the government of Japan and implemented by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, is aimed at addressing food insecurity in the country.<\/p>\n

FAO representative Qingyun Diao at the handover said the donation is testament to the FAO\u2019 s commitment to the Namibian government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese resources will equip farmers in the Ohangwena region with the means to improve their agricultural practices, mitigate the effects of drought, and ultimately grow more nutritious food,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said the initiative is about investing in the future of the Ohangwena region through building resilience.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy empowering farmers, we are fostering a more sustainable and food secure nation,\u201d Diao said.<\/p>\n

Beneficiaries had to be full-time farmers, with already existing agricultural projects.<\/p>\n
