Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA) is gearing up for its second event of the year, as the Standard Bank Epukiro Horse Racing Independence Race on Saturday promises a different experience from the previous one.<\/p>\n

Their previous horse racing event held at Okahandja, sponsored by telecommunications giant MTC, saw organisers unable to determine the winner of the main race due to a lack of photo-finish technology after three horses finished in a close contest. Five days later, organisers awarded all three horses the first prize. As for the weekend\u2019s events in Gobabis, chairman Iritjiua Murangi of the Epukiro Horse Racing Club assured fans and horse owners that history will not repeat itself. He stated that they have secured photo-finish technology to prevent any uncertainties in determining race outcomes.<\/p>\n

\u201cPreparations are well underway, and we\u2019ve taken steps to ensure a smooth event. We anticipate over 150 horses participating, including entrants from Botswana and South Africa. After the debacle of our last event, we want to reassure everyone that such issues won\u2019t arise again. With the acquisition of photo- finish technology, we aim for a flawless competition,\u201d Murangi noted.<\/p>\n

He added that they are expecting thrilling races, with top local horses set to showcase their skills. \u201cAction kicks off promptly at 08h00, and we won\u2019t tolerate any delays. Punctuality is crucial, and latecomers will be excluded from the lineup. Starting and finishing on time is our priority,\u201d Murangi emphasised.<\/p>\n

The main race winner at the upcoming event will walk away with an impressive N$20 000 prize.<\/p>\n

NHRA president Mannes Hendricks expressed optimism about the event\u2019s progress, highlighting its significance in nurturing the sport. \u201cWhile we treat horse racing as a business, our primary focus is on grassroots\u2019 development. We strive to host frequent events, providing a platform for emerging talents and jockeys to shine,\u201d Hendricks affirmed.<\/p>\n

The entrance fee for adults is set at N$50, while children will be charged N$30. Additionally, cars will be permitted entry at a cost of N$10.<\/p>\n
