Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>FORMER Ohangwena governor Usko Nghaamwa on Tuesday pledged a whopping N$99 000 to Oshikunde Combined School in the Ohakafiya circuit, in the Ohangwena region.<\/b><\/p>\n

The N$99 000 will be awarded to students and teachers who performed exceptionally well in this year’s national examinations. Out of the N$99 000, Nghaamwa, who is a patron of the school, promised the school’s best Grade 11 pupil N$50 000, and the second-best pupil N$25 000.<\/p>\n

He undertook to reward the best and second best-performing teachers with regards to the Grade 11 national exams N$16 000 and N$8 000 respectively. Nghaamwa further offered nine marginalised groups, comprising mostly San pupils, new school uniforms.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the pledging event at the school, he said education is the only key to the future. \u201cEven though we have graduates on the streets, this should not discourage you from studying hard, because the future is bright, and we need to build this country,\u201d Nghaamwa said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI gave this today because I love this school, and I am happy to associate with you,\u201d he said. The inspector of education for the Ohakafiya circuit, Linea Joel, at the event said pupils must work hard to achieve the school’s purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a community member, I have this to say: To whom much is given, much is expected. I believe he has been doing this because he is a Namibian child at heart,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Joel said she would regret it if the school failed the former governor. \u201cLet us strive for hard work, to excel, and to bring development,\u201d she said. School principal Hoster Simasiku said they promise to excel academically and to produce the best results.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe word grateful is not enough, as this is not the first time you are giving to our school.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe reflect back on our school bus. It was you who made sure we have one. We go back to the hostel beds and mattresses you gave our school, not to forget about the meat you donated to our school feeding programme.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not sure how best to say thank you,\u201d Simasiku said.<\/p>\n
