Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>In response to an overwhelming demand and feedback from the local business community, specifically SMEs, the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA) has announced the extension of its Annual Duty Penalty Waiver Programme for an additional three months until 30 June 2024.<\/p>\n

Originally launched on 15 November 2023, and scheduled to conclude on 31 March 2024, the waiver programme garnered significant interest from businesses across various sectors.<\/p>\n

However, recognising the challenges faced by many businesses in participating in the waiver programme within the specified timeframe, BIPA has decided to extend the programme to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all eligible entities.<\/p>\n

BIPA CEO Vivienne Katjiuongua stated: \u201cWe implore all business owners to seize this opportunity from the outset and not postpone participation, to ensure a smoother process and expedited service. During the initial phase of the programme, BIPA noted a significant number of clients who waited until the final days, resulting in prolonged waiting periods\u201d.<\/p>\n

During this extension period, BIPA will embark on a regional outreach initiative, visiting various towns and regions to provide businesses with the opportunity to participate in the Annual Duty Penalty Waiver Programme.<\/p>\n

This outreach effort aims to facilitate greater engagement and awareness among businesses, particularly those in underserved areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe extension underscores BIPA\u2019s commitment to supporting the business community and fostering a conducive environment for economic growth and innovation. By providing additional time and outreach efforts, BIPA seeks to empower businesses with the assistance needed to navigate regulatory obligations effectively,\u201d Katjiuongua noted.<\/p>\n

Businesses interested in participating in the programme are encouraged to stay updated on BIPA\u2019s announcements and outreach activities in their respective regions by visiting the BIPA website and the various social media pages in the coming week.<\/p>\n
