Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Football pundits are singing praises for the national senior women\u2019s football team, Brave Gladiators, following their impressive performance against Botswana\u2019s Mares on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The international friendly in Botswana ended in a 1-1 draw, showcasing the Gladiators\u2019 abilities and skill. Leungo Senwelo netted Botswana’s Mares goal, while skipper Zenatha Coleman secured a goal for Namibia.<\/p>\n

Coleman said she was impressed with the progress the Mares have made, and expressed her interest in playing in the Women\u2019s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really impressed with what I have seen… they have improved so much, and we want to grow on the same level. You guys have qualified for the WAFCON, and I think I am keen on going with my team to WAFCON as well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Woody Jacobs, the head coach of the Gladiators, said he was happy with the results, given the history the Gladiators have with their Botswana counterpart.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor us to play a match is always valuable, and to play a strong opponent like Botswana, which we haven\u2019t beaten in a long time, speaks volumes. But salvaging a draw against a very strong team is always good and satisfying, and we learned a lot from this match,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Also reacting to the results, Moreetsi Kediseng, chairman of Matebele FC, expressed satisfaction with the Gladiators\u2019 performance, noting their tactical ability and hunger on the field.<\/p>\n

\u201cNamibia put up a strong fight, considering our dominance throughout the match. We (Botswana) could have easily been defeated by Namibia today. It was a tactical display and a stellar performance under coach Woody,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Former Namibian goalkeeper Danzyl Bruwer also commended the Gladiators\u2019 gameplay, acknowledging their control of the game, despite a few missed opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey performed well, even after conceding an early goal. We dominated the first half against a Botswana team that has qualified for the Women’s African Cup of Nations. With time, I believe this team will evolve into a powerhouse,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The two teams also drew 1-1 in their last encounter in October 2023 in their Group C match at the Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women\u2019s Championship at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.<\/p>\n

In the last six matches since April 2029, the teams have drawn three times, with Botswana winning the same number of games.<\/p>\n
