{"id":6772,"date":"2021-12-05T14:45:47","date_gmt":"2021-12-05T14:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/ongwediva-ondangwa-maintain-status-quo"},"modified":"2021-12-05T16:34:21","modified_gmt":"2021-12-05T16:34:21","slug":"ongwediva-ondangwa-maintain-status-quo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/ongwediva-ondangwa-maintain-status-quo","title":{"rendered":"Ongwediva, Ondangwa maintain status quo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE town councils of Ongwediva and Ondangwa have re-elected their leaders for a period of 12 months during the annual interim election of office bearers.<\/p>\n<p>Re-elected Ongwediva mayor Taarah Shalyefu of Swapo at first declined the nomination made by the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) and only accepted his party members\u2019 nomination on the second try.<\/p>\n<p>His fellow Swapo councillor, Ulalia Katonyala, retained her position as deputy mayor of the town.<\/p>\n<p>The Ongwediva Town Council\u2019s management committee members are Naemi Amuthenu (Swapo), Jona Helao (IPC) and Fabiam George (Swapo).<\/p>\n<p>Kaarena Shikongo and Ottillie Haitota, both from IPC, are ordinary members of the seven-member Ongwediva Town Council office bearers.<\/p>\n<p>In his acceptance speech, Shalyefu reaffirmed his commitment to continue advocating for hard work, innovation and improved corporate governance, particularly accountability and transparency, as they render services to the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, as I accept this task once more again, I wish to call upon our stakeholders such as the community of Ongwediva, the private sector, NGOs, Youth Organisations, Government Institutions and individuals to join hands with Council as we propel the development of this beautiful town,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ondangwa re-elected businessman Paavo Amwele of Swapo as mayor, while fellow Swapo councillor Ester Auala retained her position as deputy mayor of the town.<\/p>\n<p>Julia Kapia (Swapo), Ericky Angula (IPC) and Nicodemus Amadhila (Swapo) were elected as management committee members.<\/p>\n<p>Alfeus Hauwanga and Maria Haufiku, both from IPC, are ordinary members of the seven-member Ondangwa Town Council office bearers.<\/p>\n<p>Amwele reaffirmed his commitment to continue fighting for the development of the town and ensuring projects are implemented.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\">Namibia<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia.
