Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Nkurenkuru local authority councillors last week gave Jafet Markus Muti another mandate to lead them as mayor. Other office-bearers re-elected were Fani Kaundu as deputy mayor, and Angeleus Liveve, Robert Mahina Katura and Leena Kaveto to continue serving as members of the management committee.<\/p>\n

During his acceptance speech, Muti highlighted some of the services that the leadership managed to provide to residents, and the challenges they faced in service delivery during their last term.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe managed to deliver municipal services at Extension 3, namely water, while roads are completed and for electricity, we are about to complete the project. The council has also drilled a borehole at Kahenge,\u201d he said. They furthermore managed to hand over 50 plots to low-income beneficiaries in Kakuro and Extension 13 at Mayara.<\/p>\n

The mayor also mapped out their new plans, stating that \u201cwe are going to extend municipal services of phase 4 at Extension 3 and electricity phase three at Extension 3, as well as the upgrading of the road from the circle\u201d.<\/p>\n

Muti pointed out some challenges which hinder their output, such as the limited funds they receive for capital projects, and money for the compensation of landowners whose land they take for development purposes.<\/p>\n

He added that there is a high demand for land while there is a shortage of land, and they are thus unable to meet the demands. The mayor urged those residents who own plots around town to at least clean their plots, even if they did not develop them yet, to keep the town clean. He further encouraged his team to always act on time when attending to queries from the community.<\/p>\n
